UPPSC Agriculture Services Syllabus

The UPPSC Agriculture Services Examination covers a comprehensive syllabus designed to assess candidates' knowledge in agriculture and related fields. The exam is divided into two stages: the Preliminary Examination and the Main Examination. Each stage has its own syllabus, and understanding it is crucial for effective preparation.

Preliminary Examination Syllabus

The Preliminary Exam consists of two papers:

1. **General Studies (Paper I)**

**Current Events:** This section includes national and international current events, with a focus on the relevance to India.

**Indian History:** Key aspects of Indian history, including the Indian National Movement.

**Geography:** Physical, social, and economic geography of India and the world.

**Indian Polity and Governance:** Constitution, political system, Panchayati Raj, public policy, and rights issues.

**Economic and Social Development:** Sustainable development, poverty, inclusion, demographics, and social sector initiatives.

**Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity, and Climate Change:** General issues on environmental ecology, biodiversity, and climate change – that do not require subject specialization.

**General Science:** Basic understanding of science, especially in areas of relevance to agriculture.



2. **Agriculture (Paper II)**

**Agronomy:** Principles of agronomy, soil and water conservation, integrated farming systems, cropping patterns, and farming techniques.

**Soil Science:** Soil fertility, soil chemistry, soil conservation, and management.

**Horticulture:** Principles of horticulture, plant propagation, and nursery management.

**Agricultural Engineering:** Farm machinery, irrigation techniques, and agricultural processing.

**Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science:** Livestock production, animal nutrition, breeding, and health management.

**Entomology and Plant Pathology:** Insect pests, diseases of crops, and pest management techniques.

**Agricultural Economics:** Principles of agricultural economics, marketing, and agricultural finance.

**Genetics and Plant Breeding:** Principles of genetics, plant breeding methods, and biotechnology in agriculture.


**Main Examination Syllabus**

The Main Examination consists of the following papers:

1. **General Hindi**

  • Grammar and composition, including essay writing, comprehension, and translation.


2. **Essay**

  • Topics related to agriculture, environment, social issues, and developmental programs.


3. **Optional Subjects (Agriculture/ Botany/ Chemistry/ Agricultural Engineering)**

**Agriculture:**

- Agronomy, soil science, plant breeding, genetics, plant pathology, and horticulture.

**Botany:**

- Cell biology, plant taxonomy, physiology, ecology, and plant biotechnology.

**Chemistry:**

- Inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry, with emphasis on agricultural chemistry.

**Agricultural Engineering:**

- Soil and water conservation, farm power and machinery, irrigation and drainage, and agricultural processing.


**Interview**

The final stage is the interview, which tests the candidate's overall personality, communication skills, and knowledge related to agriculture and current events.
