UPPSC Prelims Exam Overview

The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) Prelims Exam is the first stage of the UPPSC PCS (Provincial Civil Services) examination. It consists of two papers, both objective (MCQ-based).

  1. History of India & Indian National Movement

    • Ancient, Medieval, and Modern History

    • Freedom Struggle & Key Personalities

  2. Geography of India & the World

    • Physical, Economic, and Social Geography

    • Important Places, Rivers, Mountains

  3. Indian Polity & Governance

    • Indian Constitution, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy

    • Parliament & Judiciary, Fundamental Rights, DPSP

  4. Economy & Social Development

    • Indian Economy, Planning, Banking & Budget

    • Sustainable Development, Poverty, Unemployment

  5. Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity & Climate Change

    • Basic Concepts of Environment, Pollution, Conservation

  6. General Science & Science & Technology

    • Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Basic Level)

    • Space, IT, Robotics, Biotechnology, Defense Tech

  7. Current Events (National & International Importance)

    • Government Schemes, International Relations, Sports, Awards

  8. Uttar Pradesh Special

    • History, Culture, Geography, Economy, Polity of UP

Paper 2: CSAT (200 Marks, Qualifying - 33% Required)

  1. Comprehension & Communication Skills

  2. Logical Reasoning & Analytical Ability

  3. Decision-Making & Problem-Solving

  4. General Mental Ability & Basic Numeracy (Class 10 Level)

    • Number System, Percentage, Ratio, Profit & Loss

    • Data Interpretation (Tables, Graphs, Charts)

UPPSC Prelims Cut-off & Selection

  • The cut-off varies each year based on difficulty level & vacancies.

  • Candidates who qualify for Prelims appear for the UPPSC Mains Exam.




 

UPPSC Pre Syllabus 2025

The UPPSC Prelims Syllabus consists of two papers:

1. General Studies Paper 1

This paper is objective (MCQ-based) and determines eligibility for the Mains exam.

  1. History of India & Indian National Movement

    • Ancient, Medieval & Modern Indian History

    • Freedom Struggle & Major Contributors

  2. Geography of India & the World

    • Physical, Economic & Social Geography

    • Human & Political Geography

  3. Indian Polity & Governance

    • Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues

  4. Economy & Social Development

    • Indian Economy, Planning, Sustainable Development, Poverty, Demographics

  5. Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity & Climate Change

    • General Issues (No Subject Specialization Required)

  6. General Science

    • Basic Concepts of Physics, Chemistry, Biology

  7. Current Events of National & International Importance

    • Latest Developments in Politics, Economy, Science & Tech, Sports, etc.

2. General Studies Paper 2 (CSAT - Qualifying)

This paper is qualifying in nature (33% marks required to pass).

  2. Interpersonal Skills, Communication Skills

  3. Logical Reasoning & Analytical Ability

  4. Decision-Making & Problem-Solving

  5. General Mental Ability

  6. Basic Numeracy (Up to Class 10 Level)

    • Numbers, Averages, Percentages, Ratios, Profit & Loss, Data Interpretation

Exam Pattern:

  • Paper 1 (General Studies) → 200 Marks (2 Hours)

  • Paper 2 (CSAT) → 200 Marks (2 Hours, Qualifying)
